Brannon woke the next morning to an empty bed.

After a very late night with Addison, he’d pulled the room-darkening curtain so they could sleep in—which he’d had zero problems doing. He could have slept through a 10.0 earthquake. She’d thoroughly worn him out.

He climbed from bed, scrubbed his face with his hands and opened the drapes. “Ad?”

Sunlight filled the bedroom, highlighting the tangled white sheets. He squinted against the brightness, smiling at the pillows they’d knocked to the floor during their exploration of each other. Shuffling to the bathroom, he checked the dark room but she wasn’t in there, either.

Well. That was a first.

He’d never lost his date from the previous night. Not that he’d had many one-night stands. And after how good last night was, they’d be crazy to only indulge in one night. He hadn’t had enough of Addi.

Before they’d fallen asleep, he’d gone down on her and she’d climaxed several times. They’d had sex again, and he went slow so he could watch each satisfied microexpression cross her face. She’d fallen asleep snuggled against him, and dead arm be damned, he was content to let her lie there as long as she liked.

Now, she was a ghost? It made no sense.

The clock on the nightstand read a little after eight in the morning. He knocked lightly on their joined doors, assuming she’d fled to her own bed in the neighboring room.

No answer.

He knocked again. “Addi?”

When there was no answer, he tried the knob. Locked.

He knew damn well she’d enjoyed herself—several times. She hadn’t faked her reaction to him any more than he’d been able to fake his reaction to her. She’d turned him inside out, surprised him and made him want more. So how was it that she wasn’t around this morning for the more he was ready to give her?

He showered and dressed before venturing downstairs. Brunch was in full swing, and he saw some familiar faces from the weekend festivities. At the coffee bar, he spotted the face he’d been expecting on the pillow next to his this morning.

Approaching from behind, he leaned over Addi’s shoulder and dropped his voice low. “Excuse me, have you seen the woman who was in my bed last night? She vanished without saying goodbye.”

She spun around, her mouth pulled into a soft “O” of surprise. “Brannon. Hi. I was... I couldn’t sleep.”

“That’s funny. I could barely wake up.”

“I noticed. You snore.” She poured cream into her coffee.

He started to argue, but she spoke before he could.

“Would you like coffee?”

“Sure.”

She poured him a mug, then added cream and the perfect amount of sugar. She knew how he took his coffee and he had no idea how she took hers. She’d been paying attention to him for the last year she’d been working for him and he’d been... Well, not ignoring her, but definitely not paying close enough attention.

She handed him the mug. “Here you go.”

Before she vanished a second time, he gripped her arm. “Where are you going?”

“The pool?” A closer look at her white linen dress showed the shadow of a yellow bikini underneath.
